IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

PhD Assistantships in Watershed Hydrology and Fluvial Geomorphology, University of California, US

The Watershed Hydrology Lab in the Department of Environmental Science at the University of California, Riverside is seeking two PhD students for projects on watershed dynamics and fluvial geomorphic change.  One project is an investigation into climatic drivers of suspended sediment dynamics across the western US; the other involves a combination of hydrologic, geomorphic and sedimentological strands of inquiry to decipher the controls on estuarine channel morphology.  Results of these projects will inform a wide range of applications including water quality and coastal resiliency management and fundamental investigations into geophysical cycles.

Competitive applicants will have a strong backgrounds in quantitative approaches to the physical sciences with exceptional analytical and writing skills.  A previous master’s degree in hydrology, earth/environmental sciences or a related discipline is preferred, but not required.  Interested parties should contact Dr. Andrew Gray via email at andrew.gray@ucr.edu with a statement of intent and CV prior to the application deadline of 1/5/2015.  More information on the Department of Environmental Sciences graduate program and the formal application process at UCR can be found here:http://envisci.ucr.edu/graduate/.
