The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UCLA is pleased to invite applications for a ladder faculty member at any level (Assistant and Associate preferred, but will also consider Full
Professor) in Environmental Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to develop externally funded research in the broader area of environmental engineering, with specific focus in one of the following areas, or a complementary area: biological, chemical, and physical aspects of water quality and treatment, particularly for contaminants of emerging concern in direct/indirect potable reuse, food/water/energy nexus, and sustainable and integrated water/wastewater/water reclamation technologies.
Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D. in environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline and have the ability to teach environmental engineering courses. UCLA embraces the teacher-scholar model. Candidates should be active and productive researchers with strengths in the biological, chemical, and physical aspects of environmental engineering and have the ability to enhance and sustain our core environmental engineering curriculum. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to lead and/or participate in major interdisciplinary research projects involving multiple faculty members.
The department’s technical activity is organized around three themes: water security, sustainable urban systems, and infrastructure risk mitigation. These themes are consistent with UCLA’s Grand Challenge "Sustainable LA – Thriving in a Hotter Los Angeles," which has the goal of 100% sustainability in water, energy, and biodiversity by 2050.
