IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Assistant/Associate Professor - Civil Engineering (Various Areas), University Of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates, invites applications for multiple full-time faculty positions at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor commencing September 2016.

Outstanding candidates from all research areas will be considered, however preference will be given to the following areas:

  • Water Resources Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering, and
  • Construction Engineering

Positions are also available as Visiting Academics in any area of Civil Engineering.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise undergraduate and graduate students. The Successful candidate is expected to engage in other educational scholarly and professional activities, liaise with industry, and undertake research in his/her area of interest.

Desired skills and experience

  • Minimum qualification includes a PhD degree and a graduate education record combining course work and research as well as a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from a reputable and accredited institution of higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate subjects in civil engineering.
  • Demonstrated contributions to program development, research record in a specific area of specialization consistent with academic experience, keen interest in teaching and learning, working knowledge of relevant program accreditation systems.
  • Evidence of team work, collaboration and positive contributions to work environment.
  • Practical work experience and registration as professional engineer (P.E. or P. Eng., others) are valuable assets. Fresh graduates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Since its establishment in 1997, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Sharjah has become a regional leader in Civil Engineering education. The CEE Department offers an undergraduate program (BSc in Civil Engineering) and a graduate program (MSc in Civil Engineering) that are accredited by the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) and enrolls over 600 undergraduate and graduate students. The undergraduate program is also accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering & Technology (ABET) in USA.

The CEE Department is one of 7 Departments of the College of Engineering which enroll more than 3000 students in 12 different programs including 8 BSc and 4 MSc programs.
