This expansion includes programmatic development of a doctoral program, which is currently in the approval phase. More information about the University, College and Department may be found online at http://www.aus.edu.
AUS is located in the Emirate of Sharjah, one of the seven emirates within the United Arab Emirates. It is a 20 minute drive from Dubai. The UAE is a highly diversified, technologically advanced and secure country with an excellent reputation for tourism, business, and engineering. The University, founded in 1997, is a private, not-for-profit, co-educational institution with a healthy mix between teaching and research activities. Funding for research projects and graduate students is provided internally from AUS and externally from a variety of corporate, governmental and international sources.
The successful candidate must hold earned degrees, including the doctorate, in Civil Engineering or a very closely related area. A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and professional service is required. Preference will be given to candidates with ABET-accreditation experience.
The successful candidate must be a dynamic and innovative individual with demonstrated leadership and administrative experience within the context of the American education model. Strong communication skills to engage with a wide variety of constituents within and outside the University are necessary. The selected individual will have the opportunity to develop and articulate a vision and long-range plan for the Department in research strategy to include areas vital to Sharjah, UAE and the Region. Enhancing funding opportunities for research, outreach and graduate student support are important dimensions that the Department Head will lead.
