The Johns Hopkins University’s Department of Civil Engineering seeks applicants for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at all levels and across all areas of Civil Engineering. While particular emphasis is in the area of Structural Engineering, all qualified applicants in any area of Civil Engineering will be considered.
The Department of Civil Engineering has 11 faculty whose research broadly covers the areas of Systems, Structures, and Mechanics of Materials. Current enrollments in the Department are approximately 50 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students, the majority of which are Ph.D. candidates. The department maintains laboratories and major facilities for research in structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and in computational mechanics. Strong links to JHU institutes and centers such as the Systems Institute, the Center for Integrated Structures-Materials Modeling and Simulation, the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute, and the Cold-formed Steel Research Consortium expand the footprint of the Department both within and outside of the University. More information about the Department of Civil Engineering can be found at https://engineering.jhu.edu/civil/ . Qualifications and required materials can be found at http://engineering.jhu.edu/civil/announcements/seeking-applicants-for-tenure-tracktenured-faculty-positions/#.Vg7DPCBVhBc.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, three recent publications, and complete contact information for at least three references. Applications must be made on-line at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/6402.
Candidates applying for the position of Assistant Professor should enter names and contact information of at least three (3) references. Candidates applying for associate or full professor positions should not provide any information for references. Review of applications will begin in December 2015. While candidates who complete their applications by January 1, 2015 will receive full consideration, the department will consider exceptional applicants at any time.
In addition to this departmental search, several JHU institutes are seeking faculty applicants that may have intersecting interests with Civil Engineering: the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute is seeking applicants in the area of structures and/or materials in extreme environments, and the Systems Institute is seeking applicants for a joint appointment between the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Civil Engineering. Candidates interested in these positions should apply to the Civil Engineering search, and the search committee will nominate suitable candidates to the appropriate Institute.
