The Water Power Technology program at Sandia National Laboratories is soliciting applications for our Marine Hydrokinetic (MHK) research program. Marine Hydrokinetic devices produce electricity from the movement of water (current, tidal, and wave); both Wave Energy Converters (WECs) and Flow Energy Converters (FECs), such as tidal and river turbines, are currently studied at SNL. The major research areas we are currently involved in are: resource assessment, environmental assessment of large scale arrays (WECs and FECs), the development of WEC power performance models, offshore wind platform development, and specialized component models for both WECs and FECs (i.e. mooring, power take off, computational fluid dynamics, materials, etc.).
