IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Postdoctoral Position in Coastal Ocean Modeling, Seattle, WA USA
PNNL is a U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) national laboratory. PNNL's Marine Sciences Laboratory is developing robust marine research programs addressing fundamental and applied science relative to understanding effects of global climate change on coastal systems, enabling sustainable development of renewable ocean energy, and quantifying the physical and biogeochemical processes in coastal and estuarine systems (http://marine.pnnl.gov).  We are seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join a well-established modeling team in our Seattle Office to conduct wave, biogeochemical and storm surge modeling using advanced wave and coastal ocean models. The successful candidate will also support new modeling capability development related to integrated earth system modeling under the direction of senior modeling staff.
The successful candidate should demonstrate solid experience and knowledge with state-of-the-art wave models such as WAVEWATCHIII, FVCOM-SWAVE and SWAN. Strong scientific programing skills and knowledge of high performance computing are required. Experiences with coastal circulation and biogeochemical modeling using coastal ocean models such as FVCOM and ROMS are desirable. Knowledge with storm surge modeling, probabilistic analysis and GIS is preferred. Specifically, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for:
*             Working collaboratively with other team members to conduct wave, coastal hydrodynamics and biogeochemical modeling using structured- and unstructured-grid models.
*             Conducting model setup, simulations and validation, results analysis and visualization.
*             Supporting modeling activities related to coastal storm surge and integrated earth system modeling to understand the responses of coastal ocean to climate change and extreme events.
*             Leading/contributing to study report writing, peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations in scientific conferences.

A Ph.D. in oceanography, ocean engineering, applied physics, civil and environmental engineering, or related fields is required. Applicants should provide a letter of interest, resume, and a list of three references and apply online (job ID 304606) through PNNL website.
