State Agencies Liaison Postdoctoral Environmental Engineering Opportunity, Brown University
Ensuring that the results of basic research on environmental pollution and health topics are readily and understandably available to key stakeholders in Rhode Island is a key objective of the Brown Superfund Research Program. Among the key stakeholders in the state are the various governmental agencies who deal with issues related to contaminated sites. These include the RI Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM), the RI Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition there are many other groups, including developers, the legal community, environmental consultants and other regional and national governmental and professional organizations, any or all of whom might be involved with relevant contaminated site issues at any time.
To ensure effective two-way communication between these many groups and the Brown Superfund Research Program (SRP), Brown is seeking a State Agencies Liaison (SAL) who would be in charge of the communication efforts. This individual would inform the SRP team members of current issues of interest to the various state agencies and other stakeholders and, at the same time, arrange for timely communication to the stakeholders the best scientific understanding of the various contaminated site issues being studied by the SRP or by other leading researchers in the world. These communications will be appropriate to the audience and the nature of the information and could take the form of specialist workshops, scientific conferences, print and internet publications, etc. The SAL will also work in cooperation with the leadership of the SRP’s Community Engagement Core (CEC) and its corresponding SAL, who will take the lead in similar activities involving community groups, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the medical community.
