IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

NUS is recruiting highly qualified PhD students in coastal/ocean engineeirng, Singapore
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at National University of Singapore is recruiting at least two PhD students in the area of coastal and ocean engineering. The candidate will join a research team that focuses on the fundamentals of coastal/ocean wave dynamics, wave-current–object interactions and sediment transport. The team is being led by Prof. Philip L-F. Liu, who is a member of the National Academy of Engineering in USA. The students will conduct either experimental or theoretical/numerical research (or both)  in addressing challenging problems such as 3D flows in surf/swash zones, wave/current interactions with vegetation in coastal water, and nonlinear/breaking wave interacting with moving (deformable) objects.

The Department has a well-equipped hydraulics laboratory, including a long wave flume, in which a long stroke wave-maker is being designed and installed, a 3D wave-current basin and a U-tube. More information about the laboratory facilities can be found on the following web site:  http://www.eng.nus.edu.sg/cee/research/Hydrodynamics_Lab.html . NUS’ CEE department also has a very strong offshore engineering research program: http://www.eng.nus.edu.sg/core/
Students,  who are interested in applying the positions, should contact Prof. Philip Liu at PLL3@cornell.edu as soon as possible.
