The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank with a start date of January 1, or July 1, 2016. One of the positions will be in Building Engineering, and the second position will be in one of the following three areas: Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering Informatics, or Subsurface Utility Engineering.
The successful candidates: 1) must hold undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering or a related area; 2) must be registered or eligible for registration as members of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba; 3) will be expected to develop and teach civil engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; 4) will be expected to establish an externally funded and sustainable research program; and 5) must possess excellent communication and leadership skills.
We are particularly interested in candidates who complement existing expertise in the department, and who have a demonstrated record of research and publications in one of the following areas:
Building Engineering (position no. 18589): building systems, innovative building materials and construction techniques, evaluation, design, and structural performance and serviceability of building systems, building envelopes.
Geomatics Engineering (position no. 20268-1): remote sensing, mapping and geo-referencing, geospatial information systems, LIDAR and LADAR applications, UAV and airborne surveys, drainage surveys, and bathymetric surveys.
Civil Engineering Informatics (position no. 20268-2): management of large databases and information systems, information and communication applications in civil engineering, data exchange and integration, data mining, systems modeling and simulation, building information systems, and structural health monitoring.
Subsurface Utility Engineering (position no. 20268-3): trenchless technology, condition assessment, nondestructive testing, damage detection, system reliability and resilience, underground infrastructure installation, instrumentation, maintenance, renewal, and management, soil-structure interaction, underground construction, and pipeline design for cold regions.
The Faculty of Engineering is home to the Centre for Engineering Professional Practice and Engineering Education CEP²E². Interest and track record in research in engineering education and engineering practice will be considered an asset.
The Department of Civil Engineering (www.umanitoba.ca/civil) has twenty four faculty members, thirteen support staff, and approximately two hundred and seventy undergraduate and one hundred and thirty graduate students.
