IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Postdoc Urban Hydro-Meteorological modelling, Netherlands
We are looking for:

The Post-Doc will work in a project team that develops an environmental re-analysis, specifically on the scale of the urban environment (ERA-URBAN). This should result in a long-term archive of urban energy and water balances at very high resolution (down to ~100 m). Generating this archive requires a high performance computing effort by multi-model simulations, combined with a data-assimilation of large volume multi-source hydro-meteorological observations.

We ask:

The Postdoc candidate is expected to hold a PhD degree in Atmospheric Sciences, Hydro-Meteorology or equivalent. A suitable candidate combines a proven ability in atmospheric mesoscale-modelling, preferably with the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF). The preferred candidate brings expertise on data assimilation on atmospheric mesoscales and has profound expertise on urban meteorology. Good communication and collaborative skills are required, including excellent command of English in writing and speaking, and a strong drive and willingness to publish in the academic literature. Knowledge of Dutch is desirable.

We offer:

We offer a three year Postdoc position for 80% at MAQ starting June 1, 2015. The Post-doc will be part of a project sponsored by the Dutch NWO e-Science center (NLeSC) and will work with project members of MAQ, the Hydrology and Quantitative Water Management group (HWM) and an eScience Engineer from the NLeSC.
Salary depends on knowledge and experience. Maximum salary amount in € 4551,- a month (gross) (scale 11) based on a fulltime employment.
