Engineer/scientist (hydraulics/geotechnics), HR Wallingford, UK
HR Wallingford is a world-leading research and consultancy organisation. From flooding to shipping, offshore energy to climate change, we advise clients worldwide how to manage the water environment. We are looking to appoint an engineer/scientist to join our flood modelling team. This position will be based in Wallingford, UK.
Our ideal candidate will have experience in the use of hydraulic models for simulation of flood flows, and expertise in writing software code for surface flows. We would expect you to typically have three years’ consultancy experience plus a Master’s degree or one year’s experience plus a PhD.
In this role you will work on consultancy projects using a range of computational models, so you must be able to demonstrate familiarity with some of these. In addition, an appreciation of physical geography, flood-related data and general flooding processes would be an advantage, including topics such as role of flood defences in flood risk management. You must have a willingness to learn and develop in new technical areas.
You will be responsible for designing and delivering innovative software solutions for a diverse range of research and consultancy projects, covering topics from breach and flood risk modelling to reliability assessments of flood defences. It is essential that you can work well individually and as part of a team. You will need to present arguments, demonstrate particular strategies and engage others in their implementation. You should be able to demonstrate organisational qualities; flexibility and team working are also important attributes.
HR Wallingford is committed to recruiting and retaining staff of the highest calibre. We offer a stimulating working environment, competitive salaries commensurate with experience and an excellent benefits package that includes a generous defined contribution pension scheme, permanent health insurance, flexible working hours, childcare vouchers, staff restaurant and a sports and social club.
