The School of Mathematics and Statistics (SoMaS) at the University of Sheffield is seeking to appoint a KTP Associate in Uncertainty in Numerical Modelling. This is an exciting career opportunity to work within the private sector by means of collaboration with SoMaS and the industrial project partner HR Wallingford. HR Wallingford undertakes numerical modelling in relation to civil engineering and environmental hydraulics. The project aims to implement advanced statistical techniques for quantifying numerical model uncertainty, within HR Wallingford’s modelling framework.
You will lead the operation of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to implement the application of a cutting edge statistical methodology in a commercial environment. The successful applicant should have a good honours degree in Mathematics or a related subject, with a substantial proportion of modules in Statistics. Experience of statistical computing in a language/software environment such as R is also essential.
The post is based at HR Wallingford at their Howbery Park campus at Wallingford, Oxfordshire, UK. The post holder will be supervised by HR Wallingford, and will also receive regular supervision and support from Professor Jeremy Oakley in SoMaS. The Associate will also be supported by a £4000 training budget, and will receive management training and other personal development opportunities.
The post is for 36 months, although high performing Associates may be retained by the partner company (HR Wallingford has employed a previous Associate following a successful KTP project).
