IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Research Associate position in Civil Engineering, British Colombia, Canada
A one year, full-time Research Associate position (40 hours/week) is available in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Group in the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of British Columbia (UBC). This position strengthens research functions in Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics, focusing on laboratory and field studies of density stratified flows and physical limnology; and laboratory and numerical studies of the interaction of waves and currents. The Research Associate will engage with practitioners, engineers and academics and will work closely with research assistants, students and highly qualified personnel to enhance research by the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Group. 

Applicants must have: 

- A PhD in Environmental Fluid Mechanics or related field 
- Extensive experience and expertise with state of the art laboratory experimentation 
- Extensive physical limnological field experience 
- Expertise with Matlab and related software 
- Teaching experience at the University level 
- Proven experience and ability to direct the work of Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) (research assistants) 
- Excellent written and verbal skills, as evidenced by technical presentations at meetings and conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals
