IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

PhD scholarship, School of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland, Coastal and Environmental Engineering, Australia
A PhD scholarship is available in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland, Coastal and Environmental Engineering:

Optimising Salt-water reverse osmosis concentrate discharge during “Hot Standby” operation

This is a PhD research project that aims to use a combination of innovative environmental monitoring systems and numerical models to characterise the dynamics of a brine discharge plume from a salt water reverse osmosis system into a coastal environment. In particular, the proposed project will provide a valuable opportunity to validate multiple hydrodynamic models within and outside the mixing zone by comparing both predicted and observed diffuser performance. A scholarship is available to support the successful candidate and additional top-up and tutorial assistance may be available to complement the stipend. Applications are sought from first class & IIA honours engineering graduates. International students can apply, with the possibility of tuition fees being covered for exceptional candidates. The suitable candidate will have a solid background in fluid mechanics and hydraulic engineering. Knowledge of physical oceanography and density dependent flow simulation will also be an advantage. Further information may be obtained from Dr Badin Gibbes.
