Marine Scientist, DHI Singapore

Detailed description:
This position covers two aspects of the work responsibilities within the Survey Department:
 
  • Data processing and QA/QC: The marine scientist is responsible for overseeing data quality and data processing from various hydrographic instruments. The candidate is required to develop processing tools to adapt to the data format and presentation required by the Modelling and the Environmental Marine Services departments. The nature of the data mainly includes Wave, Current, Sediment flux, Optical and Acoustic Backscatter, Water Quality and Side Scan sonar.
  • Field measurements: The candidate is required to discuss and plan survey methodologies and organise the execution of the surveys together with the field survey coordinators. The marine scientist position involves being a link between the Survey Department and other departments within DHI.
  
Basic Requirements:
 
  • MSc in Marine Science, Oceanography or equivalent degree/area of expertise.
·         At least 3 years of working experience as an offshore/hydrographic surveyor or data processor
  • Experience programming in MATLAB. Knowledge of coding GUIs is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of oceanographic instruments (Acoustic Current Meters, CTDs etc.) as well as oceanographic software (e.g. RDI and Nortek software) is essential.
  • Excellent leadership, communicating and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing and speaking).
  • Able to work both independently and as a team member or leader, efficient in resolving problems.
  • Hard-working, ready to work out of office and outside normal working hours.
  • Able to work on survey vessels at sea.
