IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Applications are invited for a Water Resources Engineering faculty position at Polytechnique Montréal (Quebec, Canada), Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering, Hydraulic-Hydrologic section
Closing date: March 14th, 2014
This is an open rank tenure-track faculty position with preference for candidates who have academic experience and an exceptional track record. The anticipated start date is August 2014. Applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a doctorate (Ph. D.) in civil engineering with a specialization in Hydraulics, Hydrology or Water Resources. He/she must be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (Association of Professional Engineers of Quebec), or take the necessary measures to become a member before applying for a regular statute. Relevant experience in industry is essential. The teaching language is French. We are interested in candidates who will advance the state-of-the-art in the areas of, but not limited to, Hydraulics, Hydrology and Water Resources, especially in management and modelling of water resources at the catchment level, sustainable operating policies of water resources systems, environmental monitoring of interventions on lakes, rivers and receiving water bodies. Applicants must have demonstrated an ability to perform high-impact and high-demand research, and develop a creative and independent research program that would lead to strong extramurally-funded research and national/international recognition.
Polytechnique Montréal is one of Canada’s leading engineering schools and the largest in Quebec in terms of its student population and the scope of its research activities, with more than 7,500 students and 1,000 employees. It offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in a few engineering specialities. The Department is home to several chairs and research groups, among others the MADITUC group (transportation), CREDEAU (water management), the NSERC Industrial Chair in Drinking Water Treatment, the Canada Research Chair in Earthquake Resistance Design and Construction of Steel Structures, the Canada Research Chair in Microbial Contaminant Dynamics in Source Waters and the MOBILITÉ Research Chair on the Evaluation and Implementation of Sustainability in Transportation, and Research Institute on Mines and the Environment – RIME UQAT – Polytechnique.
Applicants are asked to submit a complete file including a detailed résumé, a description of their expertise, a description of their teaching and training objectives, a description of their research objectives and research program, the name and address of three references, a copy of their university diplomas, some examples of work relevant to the position and three recent scientific contributions, evaluations of teaching experience if applicable.
