IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Research Assistant or Research Associate in Physically-based Catchment Modelling, Civil Engineering, Bristol, UK
We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to evaluate physically-based models of catchment scale hydrological processes in different regions across Europe. The project will use multi-objective analysis to explore the level of physically-based model complexity that is necessary in the context of integrated catchment management. A PhD and/or post-doctoral experience in hydrology or a related discipline (e.g. civil engineering or environmental science) with a focus on numerical modelling of environmental processes is essential. Strong programming skills and experience with high performance computing and uncertainty analysis/optimization are desirable. Profs Thorsten Wagener, Dawei Han and Jim Freer, as part of the EU-funded SWITCH-ON project, will supervise the position. This 3-year PDRA position is based in Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol, UK. It is expected that interviews will be held during the week commencing 25 November 2013. For informal inquiries contact: Prof Thorsten Wagener Professor of Water and Environmental Engineering thorsten.wagener@bristol.ac.uk +44 (0)117 331 5737 Prof Dawei Han Professor of Hydroinformatics d.han@bristol.ac.uk +44 (0) 117 331 5739 Prof Jim Freer Professor of Hydrology jim.freer@bristol.ac.uk +44 (0) 117 3318388
