Research Associate Position - Mixing Vegetated Open Channel Flows

A candidate with suitable laboratory experience is sought to undertake of experimental hydraulic studies in support of a recently awarded grant ‘Engineering Rivers for Water Quality and Ecological Status’. The post holder will be based in the Pennine Water Group (PWG) within the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, working with other members of the PWG. The work will focus on characterising mass transport and mixing processes within and around shear layers which form at the boundary between vegetated and non-vegetated regions of open channel flow. This post will involve designing and undertaking an exciting, ambitious and innovative experimental programme utilising the group’s open channel flow flume, flow measurement, dye tracing and surface PIV instrumentation. Funding is currently secured for a one year position in the first instance.
