IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Research Associate: Assessing societal impacts of surface water flooding King's College London, UK
Possessing a PhD in geography or other appropriate earth, environmental, or social science discipline, the postholder will apply archival, text mining and documentary analysis techniques to online newspaper and other digital administrative records to construct a database of surface water flooding events and their impacts. Following on from that, the postholder will use interview and other case study methods to reconstruct the societal impacts of selected case study flood events to inform the identification, parameterization, and testing of generalizable vulnerability and impact functions of a surface water flooding hazard impact model.
