PhD Studentship in Hydro-environmental Research Centre at Cardiff University
This PhD project will focus on research in the areas of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for interfacial and multiphase flows in environmental & industrial applications. Research areas include two-phase interfacial flows with interface capturing method (Volume of Fluid, Level set, and combination of both), turbulence modelling using large-eddy simulation, complex geometries with immersed boundary and Cartesian cut-cell methods, and fluid-structure interaction with single/multiple body motions of six-degrees of freedom. In-house codes will be refined and applied to civil and mechanical engineering applications such as turbulent breaking waves for coastal hydrodynamics, wind-wave-current impact on floating bodies for marine renewable energy, or turbulent open-channel flows over deformable bedforms.
The PhD project will be supervised by Dr Zhihua Xie and Professor Thorsten Stoesser.
