IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is a graduate and post-graduate research and training university. First research-intensive University in Canada in terms of grants per professor, INRS brings together 150 professors and more than 800 students and postdoctoral fellows in its centers in Montréal, Québec City, Laval, and Varennes. Conducting fundamental research essential to the advancement of science in Quebec as well as internationally, INRS research teams also play a critical role in developing concrete solutions to problems facing our society.
The Centre Eau Terre Environnement seeks to fill a tenure-track position of research professor to take part in its multidisciplinary scientific program in the areas of hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and coastal and fluvial geomorphology. INRS world class Environmental Hydraulics Laboratory includes a large-scale wave flume (120 m X 25 m2) allowing the simulation of waves, tides, and currents. The research program to be developed will make use of this major equipment to contribute to the protection and erosion control of riverbanks and seashores. In collaboration with the current research team, the new professor will maintain strong ties with research users and with other similar laboratories around the world.
Main duties and responsibilities
·   Develop innovative fundamental and applied research activities related to hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and coastal and fluvial geomorphology in one or more of the areas outlined below:
-  Riverbank and coastal erosion dynamics;
-  Prediction and mitigation of climate change effects on fluvial and coastal environments;
-  Impacts of ice on riverbank and seashore stability;
-  Stabilisation, protection, and rehabilitation of riverbanks and seashores;
-  Morphology of fluvial and coastal environments using satellites, drones, and autonomous underwater vehicles;
-  Geophysical imaging of subaqueous environments.
·    Promote innovation in close collaboration with the environmental hydraulics laboratory research team;
·    Collaborate directly with government ministries and other organizations dealing with coastal erosion and resulting infrastructure instability;
·    Secure funding to support research activities through external grants from public and private organizations and industrial partnerships;
·    Participate in training activities, particularly within the framework of the Centre’s masters and doctoral programs, and through the mentoring and teaching of students and research staff.
·   Doctorate in engineering or in a field related to oceanography or geoscience;
·   Strong postdoctoral research experience;
Strong scientific publishing record illustrating leadership and innovation
·   Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams networks and in collaboration with representatives of diverse agencies;
·   Aptitude for basic and applied research, as well as multidisciplinary teaching and mentoring at the masters and doctorate levels;
·   Entrepreneurial qualities and demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
Working language
·   French is the working language of the Institute. Knowledge in English is an asset.
Candidates whose native language is not French are encouraged to apply. The Centre will provide them with all the resources necessary to facilitate their learning of the French language
