Employment Opportunities at Biota Research and Consulting: Senior Fluvial Morphologist/River Engineer, USA
Biota is an established professional environmental consulting firm located in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Biota provides environmental consulting services and contract research to industry, government, and the private sector. We offer clients a diverse set of environmental consulting services to help solve all their natural resource challenges.
Job Duties - Biota is seeking a senior level fluvial morphologist and/or river engineer with demonstrable experience and expertise. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and administration of river and aquatic habitat restoration projects. Specific job responsibilities include: collection of field data; hydraulic and hydrologic modeling; completion of complex engineering analyses and calculations; development of natural channel restoration designs; preparation of design drawings; development of bid plans, specifications and cost estimates and technical report writing; construction supervision and administration, and post-project monitoring. The candidate will also be responsible for marketing Biota’s business capabilities, and obtaining contracts with clients in industry, government and within the private sector. This person ideally has previous project management experience in order to fulfill these senior-level project management responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications – A Master’s of Science degree or higher in fluvial geomorphology, engineering, hydrology, or geology and 3 years of relevant work experience is preferred. It is desired that the successful candidate possesses previous project management experience; proposal writing experience and business development capabilities; experience with project supervision; experience in fisheries science; and a track record of maintaining positive relationships with clients and stakeholders. Experience in the assessment, design, and implementation of river restoration projects is required. Rosgen Level 1-IV Fluvial Geomorphologist Certification through Wildland Hydrology or equivalent is considered a plus.
The applicant must be willing and able to travel; have strong interpersonal and communication skills; and possess time management and organizational skills. Applicant must be self-motivated; able to work independently and with other professionals in this field and in other disciplines; and be an active participant in a positive team working environment. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to follow instructions from their manager, interact effectively with coworkers and clients, and be able to accept guidance and constructive criticism. The successful candidate must be a competent writer with the ability to pay attention to detail and accurately report the scientific methods and results of field investigations. The successful candidate must be able to supervise others and meet deliverable targets and deadlines.
