The College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology is seeking nominations and applications for the position of the Karen and John Huff Chair of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). The School, founded in 1898, currently has 49 full-time faculty members and an enrollment of over 700 undergraduate and 460 graduate students; it has an annual operating budget, including external funding, of approximately $26 million. The School offers various degree programs, which are consistently top-ranked by U.S. News & World Report, including B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, Computational Science and Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Engineering Science and Mechanics, and a Ph.D. degree in Ocean Science and Engineering.
The diverse faculty is organized into six areas of research and education: Construction and Infrastructure Systems Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Water Resources Engineering; Geosystems Engineering; Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials; and Transportation Systems Engineering. CEE is committed to interdisciplinary research, especially on smart cities, sustainable communities, and resilient infrastructure structures, and is developing new education and research models through the Serve-Learn-Sustain (SLS) program at Georgia Tech ( https://serve-learn-sustain.gatech.edu ). The Karen and John Huff School Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering and has overall responsibility for the academic and research programs of CEE, including all administrative, budgetary, and personnel decisions. The Chair has significant responsibility for external affairs, including fund raising, community outreach and alumni and industry relations. Candidates for the position must have an earned doctoral degree and international recognition in his/her specific discipline(s) with a record of excellence in technical, academic and professional achievements, and a strong record of demonstrated leadership. Candidates should provide evidence of fiscal responsibility and a record of attracting funds from private and public sources. Candidates must have the strategic skills and vision necessary to advance the School towards higher levels of excellence within a rapidly evolving multi-disciplinary and high-technology environment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to forward-thinking approaches to engineering education, interdisciplinary research and entrepreneurship, and be able to address the challenges involved in scaling innovative programs to the size of the School. The ability to work successfully with federal, state and private funding agencies as well as with the faculty and Georgia Tech administration is critical. Salary and benefits are highly competitive.
