IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Ph.D Student Opportunity in Computational Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Environmental Hydraulics, The University of Iowa, USA
A PhD Student opening is available at IIHR-Hydroscience and Engineering, The University of Iowa, USA in the research group of Prof. Constantinescu. More than 60 PhD students are part of the graduate program at IIHR, one of the oldest hydraulics lab in the US.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual interested in the development and application of state-of-the-art numerical techniques (Large Eddy Simulation, Hybrid RANS-LES methods, large scale parallel computing) in the general area of environmental hydraulics and environmental fluid dynamics. Possible research topics are related to: stratified flows (e.g., gravity currents, stratified lake hydrodynamics), shallow flows (e.g., shallow mixing layers, shallow wakes and mixing at river confluences), flow in vegetated canopies, 3D numerical simulation of floods, eco-hydraulics (e.g., mussel hydrodynamics), flow past hydraulic structures and wind engineering. Having experience in computer programing (e.g., Fortran) is a plus.

To formally apply for admission in the Graduate School at the University of Iowa, the applicant should submit the TOEFL or IESL score as well as the GRE score.  Interested applicants should send a resume and the name of 3 references to Prof. Constantinescu (sconstan@engineering.uiowa.edu). The search will continue until the position is filled.
