IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Assistant Professor, Carleton University, Canada

The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research in the general area of air quality and air pollution engineering with expertise related to one or more of the following areas: air quality impacts related to climate change; air quality characterization and assessment; air pollution impact assessment; air quality modelling; and novel air pollution and emission control technologies for industrial and mobile sources.

The Department offers dynamic, innovative, and cross-disciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs leading to Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Applied Science, Master of Engineering, and Doctoral degrees in both Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering in Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering. The Department has diverse expertise over a wide range of experimental, numerical, and analytical research areas in geotechnical, environmental, fire safety, structural and transportation engineering and in heritage conservation and sustainable building design. Within environmental engineering, the department has expertise in clean air, clean water, clean soil and clean energy.

Graduate programs of the department are offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Civil Engineering and the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Environmental Engineering to provide further strength and opportunities. The intensive research enterprise in the department includes a Canada Research Chair in Wastewater Treatment Engineering and anNSERC Industrial Research Chair in Fire Safety Engineering. The successful candidate will have access to the Department’s world-class laboratories and computing facilities. Candidates must have a Ph.D., or be in the final stages of obtaining their Ph.D., in environmental engineering or a related engineering discipline. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and possess a strong commitment to research, as reflected in their publication record. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop an externally-funded, high quality research program; will be committed to effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level; and will contribute effectively to the academic life of the Department. Synergy to establish collaborative research links with existing members of the Department and Faculty and with industry is critical. The position requires membership in a professional engineering association in Canada, or ability to obtain membership within three years of appointment.
