IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Lecturer in Civil Engineering (Teaching & Scholarship), University of Dundee, UK

The School of Science and Engineering comprises the disciplines of Biomedical, Civil, Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering, Computing, Mathematics, and Physics as well as the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID). The School benefits from superb research infrastructure, substantial opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and the University’s established excellence in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses. Excellence in teaching and research consistently leads to impressive National Student Survey scores and a Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) profile marking Civil Engineering, General Engineering (encompassing Physics) and Mathematics all 1st in Scotland and in the top 10 in the UK. Computing and CAHID deliver world leading research with impact.

The School is looking to appoint a number of outstanding academics to form a cohesive expansion in the development of interdisciplinary research and innovative, research-led teaching.

Among these posts we are looking to recruit a Lecturer in Structural Engineering (Teaching & Scholarship). You will be a confident teacher and as well as teaching structures subjects, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute with other staff to multi-disciplinary civil engineering project modules, along with developing teaching on the use of digital skills in civil engineering. Furthermore, the successful candidate will play a part in recruitment activities within the School at both undergraduate and taught postgraduate level.

Your priorities will include:

  • Carry a normal teaching load at undergraduate and Masters level. This will include topics in structural engineering and other core areas relevant to Civil Engineering.
  • Supervise students on undergraduate and postgraduate.
  • Contribute to the School’s academic and pastoral support for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Development of MSc programmes
  • Contribute to student recruitment activities within the School at both undergraduate and taught postgraduate level.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Either a PhD in a relevant subject or Chartered Engineer status with ICE or IStructE.
  • Desirable
  • Experience of using digital tools within civil engineering (e.g. BIM, CAD, 3D Modelling, Analysis and Design Software).
  • Experience of curriculum development.
  • Experience of successful international recruitment.
  • Experience of Public Engagement with Science.
