IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Professor in Civil Engineering and Head of Department, University of Bristol, UK

The Queen’s School of Engineering (Departments of Aerospace, Civil and Mechanical Engineering) is seeking to make an appointment to the position of Professor in Civil Engineering and Head of the Civil Engineering Department. The Department is seeking a strong academic leader with a clear strategic vision, an outstanding record of research and educational achievements, and excellent communication and management skills. 

You will be able to demonstrate the leadership capacity required to take on the role of Head of the Civil Engineering Department from 1st August 2017, combined with an excellent track record in structural engineering. The Department has a strong tradition in structural engineering with a focus on experimental testing, numerical modelling and soil-structure interaction. Research and teaching are supported by world class laboratory facilities, especially the earthquake shaking table which is unique in the UK. 

Please include a plan for your current/future research direction, potential sources of funding and potential or existing industrial or academic collaborators. This plan must demonstrate how you will link to and/or extend current research capabilities.

You should also include evidence of your teaching experience and your plans for future teaching. This should be linked to your research plan and demonstrate how you will link to and/or extend current teaching capabilities.

This post is being offered on a full time, open-ended contract with the start date of 1st August 2017.
