We seek a Postdoctoral Research Associate for two years in the Department of Earth Sciences, jointly with the BP Institute, to work on the interaction between crystallisation and fluid dynamics in magmatic systems. The successful applicant will join an active, and cross-disciplinary, research group encompassing field and microstructural analysis in igneous petrology, laboratory fluid dynamics experiments, and analytical and numerical modelling of the evolution of magmatic systems.
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (Earth Sciences, mathematics, physics or engineering) and be knowledgeable in igneous petrology. Desirable skills include competence in field geology and mathematical modelling. Familiarity with geochemical analysis, scanning electron microscopes (including electron backscatter diffraction), and/or laboratory fluid dynamics experiments would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will have good communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a team, and preferably a track record of publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
The anticipated starting date will be as soon as possible after May 15, 2016.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
